In another two-part series of blog posts, we’re going to discuss the topic of water heaters. The most common types of heaters include the more common tank water heater as well as the more modern tankless water heater. In this post, we’ll talk about how you can keep your tank water heater in good shape, and in our next one, we’ll give you some pros and cons of going tankless.

The standard tank water heater can cost hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars to replace. That may not be your biggest expense as a homeowner, but it’s one most people would want to avoid. In addition to regular maintenance by a professional, homeowners can perform a simple mini flush of the system. All it takes is putting a bucket underneath the drain valve, and opening it up. If you drain a few gallons, you’ll remove sediment from the bottom of the tank. This will also help the heater run more efficiently.
