Is a remodel a good investment? The answer is that it depends on the reason why you do it. When you do a remodel mainly for your own benefit, then it makes sense. The problem is that some will watch a home makeover show and decide that a remodel will be the right thing to do to improve the sale price of their home, but the statistics say otherwise. On average it is estimated that as much as half of the money you spend on a remodel could be wasted when it comes to the changed price at closing time. This means that if you spend $10,000 on a remodel before a sale, you would only see an increase of $5,000 in the sale price.

So what would be a wise investment instead? Well, unlike remodels, repairs have a more direct impact on your sale price. The same is true for inexpensive tasks that do a lot for the appearance of your home, such as painting or landscaping.
